How Often Should I Clean My Drain Line

One the key functions of your air conditioning and heating system is to remove moisture from the air. The moisture that is removed collects on the evaporator coil, drips in the condensate pan, and flows through the drain line outside your home.

In addition to the water, dust particles and bacteria can get into the condensate pan and drain line causing the water to build up into a thick grime. The grime makes it harder for water to flow through the drain line outside your home which can cause very serious problems that cost a lot to fix.

There are 2 key things you can do to keep your drain line from getting clogged.

  1. Regular maintenance. When the technicians at Tri County Air come out to perform your regular maintenance, one of the things our experienced technicians will do is clean your drain line.
  2. Have your filter changed regularly. The type of filter you have determines how often it needs to be changed. To find out how often your filter needs to be changed, feel free to call Tri County Air at (941) 485-2222. Clogged filters release more dirt particles and bacteria in the condensate pan, adding to the build up of grime.

If your air conditioning system shut off unexpectedly, or if you see that your drain pan is full, your drain line might be clogged

If you suspect you may have a clogged air conditioner or heat pump drain line, call Tri County Air right away! We would be happy to send out one of our technicians to inspect your system and clear your drain line. If you have a history of having frequent clogged drain lines, we may recommend a preventative treatment. The technician would be able to administer the treatment at the time of the service.
